Springboard

At Crosslink Academy we are passionate about changing young peoples lives, and helping them get the best chance possible in the adult world. Our Springboard programme supports young people making the transition from education into that adult world.

Employers have expressed a concern that young people applying for employment lack the customer handling, problem solving and team working skills required to be effective in the workplace.

Research shows:

  • Young people positively require direction and encouragement
  • Lack of self-esteem (feeling valued) is a major factor in their poor commitment
  • That there is a wealth of untapped talent that needs to be released
  • There is a great need to identify and develop youth talent
  • There is a need for ‘focussed coaching’ workshops!
  • Young people have a much better chance of employment if they have developed social and emotional skills

Crosslink’s Springboard

  • Builds character
  • Builds confidence
  • Builds self-esteem
  • Identifies values

"A degree alone is not enough. Employers are looking for more than just technical skills and knowledge of a degree discipline. They particularly value skills such as communication, team working, and problem solving. Job applicants who can demonstrate that they have developed these skills will have a real advantage."

Lord Digby Jones– Former Director General, Confederation of British Industry (CBI).

The programme looks at:

  • Identifying strengths
  • Setting goals
  • Unleashing potential
  • Encouraging action

"The first key to success is to be in reality what we appear to be"

Aspire- Inspire

INSPIRE > ASPIRE is inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and has been awarded an official “Inspire Mark”. Your students will have the opportunities to explore their character, ideals and values through a unique poster template, using supporting web based resources. (See Inspire Aspire video opposite) and visit the Inpire-Aspire website

This unique opportunity for primary and secondary school pupils to learn about Olympic and Paralympic values (see the Going for Gold video opposite) and discover what lies behind the Olympic movement will encourage them to develop a plan of action inspired by Olympic values and the character qualities demonstrated by Olympians. The activity offers the chance of a deeper, more personal connection with London 2012 and the chance to build enduring aspirations for the future. Teachers involved in a pilot said how the programme has helped pupils to build self-esteem, with dramatic improvements in motivation and attendance.

How it works . . .

Every student receives their own Inspire>Aspire Olympic/ Paralympic Poster template.

Their template enables students to discover the key Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect, along with the Paralympic values of Inspiration, courage, determination and equality. The template provides a framework for the exercise and activities 1-6 enable your students to explore their personal strengths and personal challenges which they can communicate with quotations and images. In activity 7, they tell the story of an Olympian or inspirational sports figure and how they achieved their success.

The really beneficial culmination of the exercise is a personal action plan setting out the student’s vision and goals, with their own explanation of how they are going to achieve them. Included in  the outcomes are their values, attitudes and positive behaviours

Rewards…

Once students have completed the exercise, their poster can be easily and quickly assessed by the teacher or by peer review to one of three levels (gold, silver and bronze) and school awards given. The best posters from each school are entered into the National competition and may win a national award at one of our awards events across the UK in 2012. Not only that but every student gets the opportunity to discover more about themselves and their character and values which is life changing.

In addition if you are not part of the Get Set network your school will be offered the opportunity to join the Get Set Network so that you can access exclusive rewards and events as part of the official London 2012 education programme. and connect with various participating schools across Europe and beyond.

How much does it cost . . .

Great news! The actual cost per head charged to the school is £1 per pupil. The programme is 75% grant funded and normally runs at a cost of approximately £4 per head. Note: Independent schools may not be eligible for grant funding.

Having GREAT CHARACTER empowers individuals and communities to change their future FOREVER.

Testimonial

"At times being a parent is not enough, although I try to tell David what was best for him it is hard not to let emotions take over. Therefore the objective encouragement and coaching in helping David realise his capabilities and potential was invaluable."

Suzanne (Mum to David aged 16)
